The frigid and majestic views afforded by the landscape of the Arctic and the Antarctic were immortalized in the 19th and early 20th paintings of artists such as Frederic Edwin Church, George Marston, and others.

The Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts is honoring them by displaying thier work in “To the Ends of the Earth, Painting the Polar Landscape.” This exhibit will begin on November 8, 2008. It will feature more than 50 works by the artists mentioned above as well as William Bradford, Rockwell Kent, and David Abbey Paige.
